Bike Computers
Compare bike computers on features, GPS accuracy and battery life

For the more sporty Dutch cyclist a bike computer is an essential companion: the flat landscape means features like ClimbPro are less crucial than in Belgium or France, but in return there is the unique Dutch knooppunten (node) cycling network. Modern GPS units can integrate that network and make planning loops ridiculously easy.
The market is dominated by Garmin (Edge series) and American Wahoo (Elemnt), with Bryton as a sharply priced challenger and Hammerhead (Karoo) for those who like Android-style interfaces. On GPS models check battery life (at least 15 hours), compatibility with ANT+ and Bluetooth sensors, and whether the Benelux map comes pre-installed.
Entry-level GPS computers start around 150 euros (Garmin Edge 130, Bryton Rider 420), navigation with a map tends to start at 250-400 euros (Edge 540, Wahoo Elemnt Bolt), and high-end touchscreen models go up to 700 euros (Edge 1040 Solar). For those who only want speed and distance a simple magnet-based speedometer starts at 20 euros.

Buying tips
- Planning to navigate via the knooppunten network? Make sure the computer supports cycling-specific maps, Garmin and Wahoo both do this well.
- A 15-hour battery is a solid minimum, for multi-day tours look for 30 hours or more (Edge 840/1040).
- ANT+ and Bluetooth Low Energy support is handy if you may later add a heart rate strap or power meter.
- A small screen (Edge 130, Bolt) is fine for data display, but for real map navigation on the go 2.6 inches or larger is more comfortable.
- For daily commuting a simple 30-euro wired meter is often more practical than a high-end GPS: less distraction, nothing to charge.
