Ortlieb Velocity
Ortlieb · Waterdichte rolltop rugzak· €110.00
Our verdict
The reference waterproof commuter backpack for the Netherlands. IP67 protection + Ortlieb quality at €110.
Detailed review
The Ortlieb Velocity is what a waterproof backpack should be. IP67-rated PD350 PVC with welded seams — no zips to leak, no waterproof shell that crusts up after a year. In Dutch cloudbursts on the Bijenkorflaan your laptop literally stays dry.
The 23 litres fits a 15-inch laptop, rain jacket, lunch, gym kit and toiletries. The lack of a padded laptop sleeve is a downside — the laptop sits in the bottom with no shock protection.
A separate sleeve (€20) solves it. Versus the Vaude Cycle 28 you win IP67 (fully waterproof) over water-resistant, lose the laptop sleeve.
Who is this for?
- Commuters with expensive laptops riding in rain
- Riders prioritising absolute waterproofing
- Anyone in Amsterdam/Utrecht/Den Haag commute routines
What to watch out for
- No laptop padding — buy a separate sleeve (€20)
- Roll-top is slower than a zip
