AGU Clean Single Bike Bag
AGU · Enkele tas· €49.95
Our verdict
The smartest value pick for Dutch commuters: genuinely waterproof, recycled material, and 50 euros. You save around 85 euros versus Ortlieb and get 80% of the performance.
Detailed review
The AGU Clean Single is the interesting middle ground between the budget Basil City Shopper and the premium Ortlieb/Vaude class, and for many Dutch commuters this is exactly enough. AGU is a Dutch brand with decades of experience in rain gear and bike accessories, and it shows: for 50 euros you get a genuinely waterproof bag with welded seams, PU coating and a roll closure that stays above the waterline. That's the key difference from the Basil — where that one is 'water-repellent' (read: soaked within half an hour), the AGU Clean is truly waterproof. In a proper Dutch downpour not a drop reaches your laptop.
The material is made from recycled PET, which fits the environmentally conscious Dutch cycling culture and pairs nicely with Vaude's Green Shape approach. The 17 litres fit a 15-inch laptop, lunch, a spare t-shirt and a jacket — more than enough for commutes up to 15 km. The main compromise is the mount: AGU doesn't use a premium Quick-Lock system like Ortlieb's QL2.1 or Vaude's QMR 2.0, just simpler plastic hooks that clip over the rack. They work fine on smooth paths, but on cobbles or through sharp corners they feel looser than the premium systems.
After 5-6 years of heavy use the hooks may show wear where Ortlieb's mechanism just keeps going. For the solo commuter who wants a single bag (one side of the rack is often enough), this is a very logical pick: waterproof protection for your laptop and clothes at a third of the Ortlieb price, with a sustainability story that holds up. If you need more capacity, buy two AGUs for the price of one Ortlieb set. The AGU Clean isn't an Ortlieb killer, but for 50 euros it delivers 80% of the performance, which is exactly enough for most Dutch commuters.
