Bobike One Maxi
Bobike · Achteraan kinderzitje· €89.95
Our verdict
The Bobike One Maxi combines Dutch design craftsmanship with practical weather protection and quick mounting. For the average city rider it is a lovely choice; parents who want maximum harness safety should pick the Thule Yepp 2 Maxi.
Detailed review
The Bobike One Maxi might be the most Dutch child seat on the market: designed in Hoogeveen, multiple times awarded for industrial design, and visible on just about every city bike between Utrecht Centraal and the Amsterdam canals. It is intended for children from 9 months to roughly 6 years with a maximum weight of 22 kg, the same bracket as the Thule and Polisport. What sets this seat apart is the double-walled polypropylene design: the shell wraps around the child on both sides and thereby blocks wind and driving rain — a relevant property in a country where it rains roughly 1 day in 3 and the daycare bike run just happens anyway. On safety, Bobike uses a three-point harness, so strictly speaking one level below the five-point harness on the Thule Yepp 2 Maxi.
In practice that is fine for most city rides; but if you are commuting long distances daily with a restless toddler, the Thule or Hamax is worth considering. The Click & Go mount on the rear rack is lightning fast and handy if you bring the seat inside in the evening — a plus in urban neighbourhoods where bike theft is a real concern. In terms of age and weight the One Maxi is the classic "9 months through infant school" pick; once your child crosses 22 kg you move to a Qibbel 6+.
Compared to the Hamax Caress the Bobike lacks a reclining backrest, so for long trips where sleep matters, Hamax is more comfortable. In the Netherlands you do not have to put a helmet on your child — it is not legally required — but many parents still do. The Bobike One Maxi is an honest premium alternative: Dutch, handsome, a touch cheaper than the Thule, and with the characteristic weather protection.
