Our verdict

The Hamax Caress is the best pick for parents with long rides or bikes without an EasyFit rack, largely thanks to the nap-friendly reclining backrest. Strictly on safety the Thule edges it, but for comfort on the road the Hamax wins.

Detailed review

The Hamax Caress is the answer for parents who regularly take longer rides — think the weekly trip to grandma, a village shopping round, or the route through the Amsterdamse Bos to the nursery. It is intended for children from 9 months to about 6 years with a maximum weight of 22 kg, putting it in the same segment as the Thule Yepp 2 Maxi and the Bobike One Maxi. Where the Hamax stands out is its unique 20° reclining backrest: the moment your toddler nods off (and that happens the instant you leave daycare), you can lower the backrest one-handed so the child's head does not flop forward. No other seat in this test offers that.

On safety Hamax uses a three-point harness with one-handed operation plus footrests with safety straps; strictly speaking the Thule five-point harness is safer, but the Hamax is more pleasant to operate when you are juggling a child in your arms. The biggest practical difference is the mount: the Hamax Caress clamps onto the frame tube (28-40 mm diameter), not the rear rack. That is interesting for parents with cargo-style frames or older bikes without a modern rack, but it is also heavier (4.9 kg) and less convenient to remove on the fly than Bobike's Click & Go.

In the Netherlands, the country with the highest share of kids cycling to school or daycare, and where helmets are not legally required for children, this seat is a serious favourite among parents who cover longer daily distances. A sun canopy is not included but is available separately. Scandinavian: thorough, thoughtful, and it pays you back in sleeping toddlers.
