Tacx Boost
Tacx · Basis wheel-on trainer· €130.00
Our verdict
At €130 the smartest minimalist indoor trainer for recreational riders. Not for Zwifters or apartment dwellers.
Detailed review
The Tacx Boost is what it is: the cheapest way to train indoors without scrap gear or borrowed rollers. €130 gets a magnetic resistance trainer with hand control — 10 levels from easy to hard — and no smartphone app connections.
That 'non-smart' is exactly where most people opt out: no Zwift, no TrainerRoad, no interactive climb that gets harder as you virtually crest the Cauberg. But for recreational riders who just want to maintain fitness through a Dutch winter — without the €300-650 investment — it's the smart answer. Pair with a Garmin fitness watch or wristband for heart rate and you have a functional setup.
Noise is a real issue: ~75 dB operation needs a trainer mat plus sensible time blocks. Fine in a tolerant rowhouse; tricky in an Amsterdam top-floor flat. Versus folding rollers (Tacx Antares €250) you save €120 but lose realistic ride feel; versus the Tacx Flow Smart (€300) you lose Zwift and gain €170.

- Recreational riders just maintaining fitness

What to watch out for
