Tacx Flow Smart
Tacx · Wheel-on smart trainer· €300.00
Our verdict
At €300 the smartest Zwift entry for Dutch beginners. Wheel-on means a noise compromise, but the price justifies itself.
Detailed review
For anyone wanting to try Zwift without dropping €650 upfront, the Tacx Flow Smart is the logical entry. €300 for a smart trainer with interactive resistance — meaning Zwift automatically sets your effort on a virtual climb — makes the hobby accessible.
Wheel-on has two known downsides in a Dutch flat: 72 dB operation (similar to a vacuum on low) and tyre wear (~6 months of daily use). The first is solved with a trainer mat plus the right time blocks (not 22:00 on a Tuesday). The second is solved with a dedicated trainer tyre like the Tacx T1390 (€25).
The 800W max is a serious limit if you do sprint training or FTP tests. For following structured plans and joining social Zwift events it's plenty. Versus the KICKR SNAP (€400) you save €100 but lose on build and noise; versus the KICKR Core (€650) this is objectively the weaker pick for serious training, the smarter pick for testing the water.
Who is this for?
- Zwift beginners testing the water
- Budget-conscious indoor trainers
- Owners of a regular city or trekking bike
What to watch out for
- Not for sprint training or >800W efforts
- Plan for a trainer tyre after 6 months of daily use
