Topeak Modula Java Cage
Topeak · Verstelbare bidonhouder· €12.00
Our verdict
For commuters and gravel riders the smartest flexible cage at €12. For pure roadies, choose a fixed cage.
Detailed review
The Topeak Modula Java is the sensible pick for commuters who sometimes want a sport bottle, sometimes a coffee cup, sometimes a thermos. The cage adjusts via a screw to fit bottles 70 to 92 mm in diameter — enough for most commercial coffee cups (Starbucks Tall = 81 mm, Hema reusable = 78 mm) and a wider thermos like a Klean Kanteen.
The engineered plastic stays stiff over years, and the side clamp keeps bottles seated over bumps. Versus the SKS Topcage (€8 fixed 74 mm) you gain flexibility but lose 5 g and €4. For a road cyclist not the logical choice; for a gravel or commuter rider with multiple bottle types it is.
Downsides are marginal: 45 g is heavier than a race cage but lighter than a metal cage, and plastic grips slightly less firmly than a high-end carbon side-pull. At €12 a sensible investment that stops you needing a separate cage for each bottle.
Who is this for?
- Commuters who use different bottle types
- Riders bringing coffee cups along
- Gravel riders running multiple bottle types
What to watch out for
- Slightly less grip than a proper race cage
- Screw adjustment takes 30 seconds between bottle swaps
