Water Bottles
Bottles and cages for long rides.
5 products
For long Dutch bike rides — a Veluwe tour, a Vechtdal route or a Posbank loop — hydration is critical. A €5 bottle does the job; a €15 insulated bottle keeps water cool 2-3 hours in summer temperatures.
The choice depends on ride type. For 5-10 km commutes a Tacx Shiva (€5, 750 ml) is enough. For 60+ km summer weekend rides an insulated CamelBak Podium Chill (€16) is an upgrade you'll noticeably appreciate. For MTB rides where spills are problematic, a self-sealing valve (Podium Chill, Specialized Purist) is essential.
Bottle cages cost €5-20 depending on material. Polyamide (SKS Topcage) flexes in crashes; carbon (Tune Wasserträger) is light but cracks; adjustable cages (Topeak Modula Java) fit both sports bottles and coffee cups. For gravel riders with two cages on the frame, dual Tacx Shiva (€10 total) is the smartest budget solution.

Buying tips
- For summer rides above 25°C: insulated bottle (CamelBak Podium Chill) — keeps water 1-2 hours cooler.
- Standard bottle diameter is 74 mm — fits virtually any cage; check before buying speciality bottles.
- Dishwasher safety (top rack) is essential — sport bottles without it are hard to keep hygienic.
- BPA-free has been standard on brand bottles since 2014 — no-name can't guarantee it.
- For MTB or gravel use: a self-sealing valve (Jet Valve) prevents spills — no plastic dribbles on your shorts.
