Uvex Sportstyle 231 2.0
Uvex · Photochrome bril· €60.00
Our verdict
For Dutch cyclists with variable weather the smartest no-compromise pair at €60.
Detailed review
The Uvex Sportstyle 231 2.0 is the smart pick for Dutch cyclists who don't want to carry three pairs of glasses. The photochromic lens auto-darkens in bright sun (cat 3) and clears in cloudy weather or forest (cat 1). For anyone leaving in drizzle and getting home in sun — a classic Dutch scenario — this is objectively the most practical choice.
Transition time is ~30 seconds, which in practice isn't a problem: rolling through a tunnel or forest, adjustment is fast enough. German Uvex has made ski, snowboard and cycling eyewear for decades, and that experience shows in finish and fit.
Versus a fixed lens you can never swap for very specific conditions (intense summer on water, night time trial), but for 95% of Dutch cycling weather this is the no-brainer. At €60 excellent value for photochromic technology.
Who is this for?
- Commuters facing variable weather
- Riders wanting just one pair of glasses
- Recreational cyclists not buying 3 pairs
What to watch out for
- For intense summer on water, prefer a dedicated cat 3 lens
- 30-second adjustment — not instant
