Our verdict

A rugged commuter helmet with visor and LED light at a sharp price. A smart pick for regular city riders, but look elsewhere if you want MIPS or ride a speed pedelec.

Detailed review

The ABUS Hyban 2.0 is built for the classic Dutch commuter — someone pedalling half an hour to work every day through rain, twilight and heavy traffic in Utrecht, Amsterdam or Eindhoven. Where the pricier ABUS Urban-I 3.0 chases a sleek city look, the Hyban 2.0 goes for ruggedness. The removable visor is genuinely useful in practice: on wet November mornings it keeps droplets off your glasses, and in summer it tames low oncoming sunlight when you exit a tunnel.

The integrated LED rear light has three modes and runs on a coin cell — not rechargeable, which is a miss in 2026, though the battery usually lasts a full winter. Protection-wise the helmet meets CE EN 1078 but lacks MIPS or SPIN. Speed pedelec riders should look elsewhere anyway: since 2017 the Netherlands requires NTA 8776 for 45 km/h bikes, and this model is not certified — the Casco Roadster is the answer there.

The 380 g mass becomes noticeable after about an hour, but for a typical 20-to-40-minute commute it's entirely manageable. Ventilation through eight vents is adequate: on a 30-degree July day it gets warm, but never unbearable. For folding into an NS station locker or under an office desk, the Closca Loop serves better, but on pure value-for-money with built-in light the Hyban 2.0 is one of the smartest sub-70-euro picks.
