Our verdict

The Tigra FitClic Neo is the practical pick for the Dutch commuter: complete, weatherproof and affordable. For heavy cobblestone use with an expensive iPhone a system with proper vibration damping is better, but for ordinary city riding and touring this is a very sensible buy.

Detailed review

The Tigra FitClic Neo is the sensible middle ground for Dutch commuters who consider weather the number-one factor. No separate rain cover to pull on the moment it starts drizzling, no premium price tag: the IPX5-certified case is included as standard. That means your phone can cross Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rotterdam or Groningen all winter in the pouring rain, while the touchscreen still works straight through the case — including pinch-zoom on Google Maps and Komoot. The mounting system is called FitClic Neo and works with a magnetic snap-and-click mechanism: you drop the phone onto the mount, the magnets pull it into position, and a mechanical clip locks it in. Fast and intuitive. Not quite as rock-solid as the Quad Lock twist or the Peak Design SlimLink — in our tests the fit felt a little looser — but for daily city riding and touring it is perfectly reliable.

Important caveat: the Tigra FitClic Neo does not have an explicit high-frequency vibration dampener like the Peak Design or the (optional) Quad Lock module. The IPX5 case itself offers some dampening via its polymer coating, but less than a true shock-absorber module. Apple warns that high-frequency vibrations can permanently damage iPhone optical image stabilisation (OIS) — for a city cyclist mostly riding tarmac and bike lanes the risk is limited, but anyone hammering over Amsterdam cobbles daily should be extra careful. Compared with Quad Lock, Tigra is cheaper and instantly waterproof, but less tight in its fit and with a smaller ecosystem. Compared with Bone, Tigra is a substantial step up in safety and protection but also in price. Compared with SP Connect, Tigra is simpler and cheaper, without the aero focus but with more built-in rain protection.

This is the mount for the trekking cyclist, the daily commuter and the weekend knooppunten rider who cares more about rain protection than grams or market leadership. An honest, practical pick for the Dutch climate.
