With the rise of Google Maps navigation and apps like Komoot, a phone mount has become essential for many Dutch cyclists, especially in the maze of Amsterdam canals or unfamiliar residential areas. Broadly there are two types: universal clamps that fit any smartphone (Lamicall, Roam, Tigra) and brand-bound systems like Quad Lock and SP Connect that require a special case with adapter.
Quad Lock is the market leader thanks to its very secure quarter-turn locking system and is available for practically every modern phone. One key thing to know: Apple has warned since the iPhone 12 that prolonged exposure to strong vibration (including bicycles and e-bikes to a lesser extent) can damage the camera's Optical Image Stabilization. Quad Lock and Peak Design therefore offer vibration dampeners that fit between handlebar and mount.
Prices start around 15 euros for a universal clamp and reach 80 euros for Quad Lock plus dampener plus case. For city rides a simple clamp is fine, for sportier rides or gravel paths a brand system with dampener is a wise investment. Also consider weather protection: rain covers or IP ratings are welcome in the Dutch climate.

Buying tips
- Using an iPhone? Consider a Quad Lock or Peak Design with vibration dampener to prevent OIS damage to your camera.
- Universal clamps are fine for city rides, but on bumpy roads your phone can shoot out of a cheap clamp.
- Check your handlebar diameter, most mounts support 22-32 mm but some BMX-style thick bars do not fit.
- A folding cover or rain shield is handy during wet Dutch autumns, otherwise droplets make the screen unusable.
- Make sure the mount has a safety strap as a backup if the clamp ever releases unexpectedly.
