Detailed review

The Kalkhoff Endeavour 5.B Move+ is the serious long-distance pick for Dutch riders with ambitious plans: multi-day tours through Limburg, holidays in the Ardennes or Black Forest, or simply a 25 km one-way commute without recharging in between. Kalkhoff is a German brand from Cloppenburg with a long trekking tradition, and the Endeavour 5.B Move+ is their mid-range touring e-bike — serious enough for big rides but not quite their top tier. The typical buyer has cycling experience, plans multi-day trips, and gets frustrated by the range limits of 500 Wh batteries on the Giant Explore E+ 2 or QWIC Premium MN8 Belt.

The heart of this bike is the Bosch Performance CX — at 85 Nm the strongest motor in the entire test field, one step above the SyncDrive Sport on the Giant. In Turbo you feel a push that works like an active hand pulling you forward, and on a Limburg climb like the Cauberg or Keutenberg you can clearly tell this motor is developed for MTB use and is running 'understressed' here. The 625 Wh battery — 125 Wh larger than the Gazelle Chamonix T10 HMS or Cube Touring Hybrid ONE — delivers 80 to 150 km depending on mode and terrain. That makes a ride from Utrecht to Maastricht (200 km) practically feasible in a day with one charging stop. The Shimano Deore XT 11-speed drivetrain with larger cassette cogs gives extra range for steep climbs the 10-speed Deore on the Giant or Cube cannot quite match.

Honest about the price: €3,199 is no small sum and puts the Kalkhoff right alongside the QWIC Premium MN8 Belt in the premium segment, though with a very different profile — the QWIC is an urban luxury package, the Kalkhoff is a touring performance package. The Dutch Kalkhoff dealer network is more limited than Gazelle or Batavus; much of the servicing goes through Derby Cycle partners and designated workshops. For pure city riders this is overkill — the Gazelle Chamonix T10 HMS or Batavus Finez E-go Power are more logical and €700-800 cheaper. But if you seriously plan long distances, seek out hills, or simply want peace of mind that battery range will never be an issue, the Kalkhoff Endeavour 5.B Move+ is the best touring package in this test.
