POC Omne Air SPIN
POC · Allround helm· €119.95
Our verdict
The strongest all-rounder in this comparison: light, well ventilated and with real oblique-impact protection via SPIN. Pick it if you want one helmet for sport, city and long rides alike.
Detailed review
The POC Omne Air SPIN is one of the most versatile helmets you can buy: light and airy enough for long road rides through the Limburg hills, yet clean enough to look at home on a city or e-bike too. POC's own SPIN technology (Shearing Pad INside) is an alternative to MIPS: silicone-filled pads that shear during an oblique impact to reduce rotational forces on the head. Independent Virginia Tech testing has consistently ranked the Omne Air among the best all-round helmets in its segment. At 305 g in size M, the Omne Air SPIN is noticeably lighter than the Lumos Ultra (385 g) or Thousand Heritage 2.0 (410 g) — you feel that difference in your neck after an hour in the saddle.
Its sixteen vents deliver top-tier airflow: on warm summer rides it walks away from the closed city helmets in this comparison. That also makes it a smart choice for faster e-bike riders and trekking cyclists who stay out longer. The fit is European-compact, and the thinly padded retention system stays comfortable even under a rain hood. What's missing: an integrated rear light, so you'll still be clipping one on in the Dutch winter.
The helmet is also not NTA 8776 certified, meaning it's not suitable for speed pedelec riders who have been legally required to wear a dedicated S-pedelec helmet in the Netherlands since 2017. Some owners also find the Scandinavian matte finish prone to scuffs. But if you want one helmet that excels on weekend road rides and daily city hops alike, this remains one of the best picks on the market.
Who is this for?
- Road riders and sporty e-bikers who want low weight and airflow
- All-round cyclists looking for one helmet for both sport and city
- Riders who want SPIN or MIPS but don't need integrated lighting
- Summer commuters who want to avoid overheating in closed city helmets
What to watch out for
- No integrated rear light — you'll need a clip-on for winter riding
- Not NTA 8776 certified — not legal for speed pedelecs
- Matte finish can scratch easily with rough handling
