The €991 price gap (€6990 vs €5999) is relatively small when you consider that in both cases you're buying a tool for 30-50 km of daily one-way commuting. Technically the differences are meaningful. The Stromer ST3 runs a proprietary SYNO Sport rear hub motor fed by a single massive 983 Wh battery, and is strikingly clean in its design — fully internal cabling, Swiss finish, and integrated theft protection via the Stromer app including GPS tracking. The Riese & Müller Supercharger2, in contrast, uses the proven Bosch Performance Line CX Speed paired with a dual-battery setup for 1125 Wh combined, and offers full suspension (front and rear). Both hit the legal 45 km/h and, under Dutch law, require an NTA 8776 helmet, number plate, WA insurance, and at minimum an AM/B driving licence. The range difference is noticeable on long commutes: the Riese's 1125 Wh delivers 10-20% more kilometres on the same ride.

For the commuter covering 40+ km each way every day across bumpy bike paths and unpaved stretches, the Riese & Müller's full suspension is a comfort gain you feel in your lower back. For the rider who values clean aesthetics, integrated app control, and the peace of mind of GPS theft recovery on a €7000 bike, the Stromer ST3 is the complete package.

For most Dutch speed-pedelec commuters we recommend the Riese & Müller Supercharger2, unless you ride purely on smooth urban roads and theft recovery matters more to you than full suspension — in that case the Stromer ST3 is the aesthetically superior and technically equally capable choice.
