ABUS Bordo Granit 6000 vs ABUS Granit X-Plus 540

This is an ABUS-vs-ABUS duel where the Granit X-Plus 540 edges out the Bordo 6000 with an overall score of 92 to 88, but the gap is entirely about security level versus carry-friendliness. Both locks are top-shelf products — the question is what your bike is worth and how much you move it around. The Granit X-Plus 540 carries the rare ART-3 rating (the highest for bike locks), a parabolic 13 mm shackle, and the ABUS X-Plus cylinder — together good for a 98/100 security score. It has one big downside: 1640 g and a shackle width of just 10.8 cm. The Bordo 6000 with ART-2 and 5 mm hardened plates scores 92 on security, weighs 540 g less, and has 90 cm of effective length to loop around almost anything. For insurance on e-bikes up to €3000 ART-2 is enough; only for very expensive speed pedelecs or cargo bikes is ART-3 recommended or required.

For a premium speed pedelec you park in a shed or garage overnight, or for a €5000 cargo bike that has to live outside, the Granit X-Plus 540 is the right call. For an e-bike between €1500 and €3000 that you take with you daily and lock to different objects, the Bordo 6000 is more practical and usually sufficient.

For most cyclists we recommend the ABUS Bordo 6000, unless your bike is worth more than €4000 or your insurer explicitly requires ART-3 — in those cases the €20 premium for the Granit X-Plus 540 is absolutely justified.
